Feed the Forest is a forest-growing incremental game developed by Indoor Sunglasses, Ed, Melting_Voices, and Victor Selnæs Breum. Set in a barren desert, players take on the role of a diligent water snail that awakens an ancient forest. Inspired by the 'Annals of Richness,' the story follows the snail's initiative to address the forest's hunger, creating a tale of grit and opportunity. The game blends elements of nature, resources, and mythology, offering an immersive experience about perseverance. Developers plan to release more games in the same universe, focusing on natural themes. Originally created for Alchemy Jam #7, it won the 'Most Engaging Game' award, highlighting its creative appeal and player engagement.
In Feed the Forest, core gameplay involves planting vegetation, collecting fruit, and upgrading abilities. Players start by controlling a snail that moves across the desert to plant bushes, trees, and other plants, which periodically yield fruit. Collected fruit can be used to purchase upgrades such as increased storage, faster movement, expanded collection range, and tools like bombs. Automation features include helper snails that assist in fruit gathering, though players must manage potential pathing issues. Strategic resource management is key to efficiently transforming the desert into a lush forest while balancing expansion and upgrades. The game also includes hidden elements and achievements, such as finding wizards and helper worms, adding exploration and replay value.
The game supports keyboard and controller inputs. Basic controls include using arrow keys or WASD to move the snail, the E key to plant vegetation, and the spacebar or B button (on controller) to throw bombs for clearing obstacles or exploring hidden areas. Players can purchase upgrades via clickable buttons in the shop interface. Helper snails automatically collect fruit, but may get stuck due to environmental issues. The interface is user-friendly with real-time feedback like fruit collection animations and upgrade prompts, ensuring intuitive and accessible gameplay.
