Fossil Quest is a cozy fossil digging life simulation game developed by Unsigned Double, set in a world rich with dinosaur fossils. Players take on the role of a museum curator who has always dreamed of creating their own dinosaur museum and now has the space to do so. The game focuses on exploration and collection, as players travel to various dig sites, excavate fossils, assemble exhibits, and decorate their home to build a unique museum. Emphasizing relaxation and creativity, players can freely design their museum layout, upgrade tools for better efficiency, and attract visitors. Developed by a two-person team, the game is currently in prototype stage, with plans to expand into a full version featuring more content and mechanics like town interactions and research systems. It supports HTML5 and Windows platforms, with compatibility issues on Mac and Firefox being addressed. Community feedback is actively encouraged to improve the game.
The core gameplay of Fossil Quest revolves around fossil excavation and museum management. Players start by traveling to different dig sites such as Colorado and Montana, using tools to dig up fossils. The excavation process involves clicking or holding the mouse button to remove dirt blocks, carefully cleaning fossils to avoid damage, and collecting rare items like lucky finds. After excavation, players return to their museum to assemble fossil skeletons through puzzle mini-games and place them in exhibition areas. Players can upgrade tools to enhance digging efficiency, decorate their home to boost museum appeal, and open the museum to visitors to earn income for further expansion. The game also includes features like character customization, a research system, and town interactions, offering a varied experience. Players must manage resources, balancing digging, assembling, and decorating activities to build a successful museum.
Game controls are primarily based on keyboard and mouse. In excavation scenes, use WASD keys to move the character, click or hold the left mouse button to dig dirt blocks, and hold the right mouse button to rotate the camera for better fossil viewing. In the museum scene, press P to manage exhibits, use the mouse to select and place fossil displays, press F to assemble fossils, and press Delete or O (for Mac users) to delete exhibits. Players can also use the scroll wheel to rotate exhibit items and press Tab to switch tools. The game supports holding the mouse button for continuous digging to improve efficiency. Control settings may vary by platform, with the downloadable version recommended for smoother performance. The development team plans to add tutorials and more intuitive control options in future updates.
