In Karawan, you lead a caravan through a crumbling fantasy world on the brink of destruction. You must guide your followers across treacherous terrain, foraging for food, mining for ore, and expanding your following. Along the way, you can hire a Magus who can cast world-altering spells to help overcome obstacles. The ultimate goal is to reach a portal that will allow most of your people to escape. The game combines strategic planning with resource management, where every decision matters.

The game is turn-based: you move your caravan step by step on a grid map. Each turn, you can explore adjacent tiles to gather resources like wood, ore, and food, and recruit new followers. Resources are used to upgrade equipment, build structures, or cast spells. Magi have unique spells that can change terrain or heal units. You must balance resource consumption with caravan size, and deal with random events and enemies. Reaching the portal wins the game.
