King Fortress

A variant of chess where almost every piece has a unique special power, adding new layers of strategy.

About the Game

King Fortress is a creative chess variant that blends classic piece movement with special abilities. Almost every piece, from pawns to bishops, has been given unique powers: bishops can cloak themselves, knights may leap over obstacles, rooks might create defensive barriers, and more. These additions drastically change the strategic landscape, rewarding both careful planning and clever bluffing. Designed for local two-player matches, the game keeps the core objective of checkmating the opponent's king while introducing hidden information and asymmetric capabilities. The clean interface makes it easy to pick up, yet the depth of interactions ensures high replayability. Whether you are a chess veteran seeking a fresh challenge or a newcomer curious about tactical board games, King Fortress offers an engaging battlefield where every move counts.

How to Play

Players take turns moving pieces and activating special powers. Click to select a piece, then click a valid destination to move. If the piece has an active ability, an action button will appear on screen. Bishops can become invisible, and holding down the spacebar temporarily reveals all cloaked enemy bishops. The game follows the standard checkmate condition, but with the twist that many pieces can hide, disable, or outmaneuver opponents. Because information is deliberately obscured, mind games and prediction become just as important as raw tactical calculation. The fast-paced nature of the special abilities prevents stalemates and encourages dynamic, unpredictable play.
