Taiyaki Fabulous Museum of Fish is a retro-style puzzle adventure game developed by objetdiscret, set on the mysterious Fishcross Island. Players take on the role of an explorer, traversing land and water, interacting with quirky characters, and uncovering secrets. The core gameplay revolves around nonogram puzzles (also known as Picross), where players use logical deduction to fill grids based on numerical clues, revealing patterns to obtain items and advance the story. The narrative focuses on collecting the Power of 7 Fish, with the ultimate goal of meeting the enigmatic Chad in the Taiyaki Fabulous Museum of Fish. Featuring classic pixel art, the game exudes a cozy and cute atmosphere, appealing to fans of puzzles and retro gaming. Built with GB Studio, it supports various retro platforms including Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Super Game Boy, Analogue Pocket, and emulators, ensuring broad compatibility and nostalgic appeal.
The core gameplay is based on nonogram puzzles (Picross), where players logically deduce which squares to fill in a grid based on row and column number hints, ultimately forming complete images. The game includes 200 nonogram puzzles of varying difficulty, scattered across the island. Beyond puzzles, players can freely explore Fishcross Island, talk to NPCs, collect items, and unlock new areas, incorporating light adventure elements. Progress is non-linear, allowing players to proceed at their own pace by solving puzzles to gain Fish Power and gradually uncover the story. Post-game content offers additional challenges and puzzles, extending playtime. An enhanced version, TaiFabPlus, is available for paying players, featuring extra functionalities like save-anywhere, additional puzzles, and improved interfaces.
The game supports keyboard and Game Boy controller inputs. Keyboard controls: Use WASD or arrow keys to move, Z to interact/confirm, X to cancel, Enter to view inventory and Fish Power, and Shift to view completed puzzle albums. Game Boy controller controls: D-pad to move, A to interact/confirm, B to cancel, Start to view inventory and Fish Power, and Select to view completed puzzle albums. In the TaiFabPlus version, additional features include holding B to run and saving anywhere on the map via a Select-button menu.
